Moving some races to the middle of the week would lessen the competition NASCAR’s top series faces on the weekends, and while there are logistical issues holding up the concept for 2018, it remains under consideration for the future.
“Mid-week points races are an idea, but there’s a whole lot of work that needs to be done to make them viable,” a source told SportsBusiness Daily.
NBC Sports executive Jon Miller said in December that his network is interested in airing races in the middle of the week.
While no points races are expected to be moved for next season, sources would not rule out the possibility of moving the non-points All-Star Race in May to mid-week next year.
