The Uncharted project has already had several directors and many have feared that the film would remain in development hell, or worse, it would be another poor video game crossover into film. With that said the game series, is known for its cinematic qualities as well as its Indiana Jones inspiration and this may help it transition formats better than most. Nolan North certainly seems to be taking this positive attitude when it comes to the film.

In a tweet, Nolan North told starts Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland to “have a blast!” The actor signed off his tweet with “Sic Parvis Magna” which means greatness from small things in the Uncharted games. A lot of fans were encouraged by what seems to be a seal of approval from the original Nathan Drake but some had concerns about supporting the actors who will feature in the Uncharted film.
Some of the top replies to this positive message highlighted some ethical questions that casting Mark Walberg raises. The actor has a history of attacking people because of their race and has been convicted for his abusive and violent crimes in the past. With that said, the crimes were thirty years ago and since then Walberg has been in a lot of successful films. As a result, it is unlikely that the dark history of the actor will impact his cinematic appeal for most fans.
Despite some controversy, it seems that there is a lot of positive feeling around the Uncharted film. With the filming of Uncharted beginning now many will be excited to see how the story of Nathan Drake is retold and whether it can reach the exciting heights of its video game inspiration.
Uncharted is currently slated to premiere in theatres on July 16, 2021.
