Like a monster, something lurking other than the drivers themselves may present a difficult challenge when the Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Dover International Speedway for the 11th race of the season. A large rain system threatens to delay or postpone the Gander RV 400 until Monday. The conditions made an early impact this weekend, as drivers had their Saturday morning practice session canceled due to rain. The best weather is likely to be at the race’s 2 p....

While Martin Truex Jr. survived despite entering the race just above the elimination line, Brad Keselowski was knocked out of postseason contention. He won three consecutive races in September but got into multiple wrecks over the past month. Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman were also eliminated. While JGR was impressive with single lap speeds, it was four-time LVMS winner Jimmie Johnson looking the strongest on the long runs with the fastest 10-consecutive lap average during the early session, as well as Thursday’s test session. Right behind Johnson with the best run over longer stretches was Austin Dillon who had the best 10-consecutive lap average during the final practice. Rain and lightning forced several delays in Stage 1, and because Pocono Raceway doesn’t have lights, threatened to shut down the track before the full 140 laps could be completed. No accidents or delays over the final 55 laps ensured a complete race. Harvick finished second and was followed by Erik Jones, Chase Elliott and Aric Almirola. Kyle Busch crashed out of the race in the early going following a strong start....

Denny Hamlin, fresh off a win in Darlington, led for most of Saturday night’s race until the final stage, when he was passed by teammates Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch. The latter two battled and looked to have a close finish brewing before Busch was hit with a speeding penalty on pit road. Hamlin made a late comeback effort but Truex was able to hold him off to win the Federated Auto Parts 400 Salute to First Responders at Richmond Raceway and clinch a spot in the Round of 12....

Reports said Theriault, who drives for Brad Keselowski Racing, has a 10 percent compression fracture of the lower back. Based on a strong run at Pocono Raceway last month, along with being the most consistent driver all season, Harvick is the early driver to beat before seeing three separate practice sessions on Friday. The Brickyard’s 2.5-mile flat layout is unique to itself, but there are some similarities to Pocono’s 2.5-mile layout because of the long straightaways. There wasn’t anything that stood out in either practice that we didn’t anticipate throughout the week in our multiple reports regarding race odds and props offered throughout the city. Much of our analysis was based on information from last week’s race in Atlanta – a sister track of Las Vegas, since both are 1.5-mile layouts. Everything we saw last week is in place for a replay on Sunday: the Hendrick cars should be strong, followed by Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano....
