The biggest change is the testing policy, which consisted of four tests per organization per year at NASCAR tracks and unlimited tests at any non-NASCAR track. Now NASCAR teams will only be allowed to participate in NASCAR and Goodyear tests. Anyone violating that policy would be subject to NASCAR’s stiffest penalties — a “P6” in NASCAR’s tier — that would include a six-race suspension and a fine of $150,000 to $200,000....

NASCAR driver and defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano thinks someone might have stolen his dog Luigi. The driver’s dog has been missing since Tuesday and he spoke to reporters at Charlotte Motor Speedway hoping to get some help finding Luigi. “Our little Luigi I believe he’s stolen, I think,” Joey Logano said Thursday. “We can’t really put a match to anything. We put a bunch of signs up and things on social media and we watched the cameras at our house and we see him running around the backyard and then you don’t see him again....

But since his team owner saw on CNN that Kahne’s car left the racing surface at a dirt track in 2011, Kahne hasn’t raced in many other events beyond NASCAR. This year, he raced a midget car in the Chili Bowl to honor friend Jason Leffler but hasn’t raced in any winged sprint-car events. Kahne still wants to race them, but he does admit the tragic accident involving Tony Stewart and Kevin Ward Jr....

On-track qualifying is a rarity this season as NASCAR tries to limit the amount of time teams spend at the track amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Only eight races total are scheduled to have practice and qualifying in 2021; Nashville was race No. 5, joining Daytona (for the Daytona 500), Bristol’s dirt track, Circuit of the Americas and Charlotte (for the Coca-Cola 600). The remaining sessions will be for new tracks on the schedule (Road America and Indianapolis’ road course) and the season-ending Championship 4 race at Phoenix....

Fans had weathered several delays for rain throughout the weekend, including having the race postponed Saturday night to Sunday morning. The ones who could come back were there for an 11 a.m. start, a start delayed by about 10 minutes because of rain. Then 10 laps into the race, the event was stopped for 25 minutes for rain. And after 112 laps, the rains returned and were heavy. With nearly an hour delay and counting, NASCAR threw in the towel....

Instead of the typical group qualifying used at other tracks, NASCAR will use a two-round format July 25 with each car beginning qualifying by posting a single timed lap. The top 12 cars in that round will advance to a second round, which will determine the pole-sitter with the 12 cars’ first-round speeds reset for the pole run.
