A late caution with six laps remaining in the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 brought forward that decision. Drivers mulled whether to go to pit road with overtime looming. Most of the field, including Byron, had not pitted in nearly 100 laps. Byron decided to stay out — as did the rest of the top five — and went to overtime on older tires. It was the right decision. Despite a late push by Joey Logano, Byron took the white flag as the leader and hung on for the win at Martinsville Speedway....

Speaking on SiriusXM’s NASCAR channel Monday afternoon, France addressed the issue of the alliance, a group of nine Sprint Cup teams that recently announced they would work together to increase leverage of purchasing power for everything from common parts and pieces to travel. Rob Kauffman, the group’s chairman, has said that the group, if asked, also could serve as a voice of the owners in discussions with NASCAR. “When you hear ‘one voice,’ that would probably be the worst thing that we could ever do is to listen to one voice, even if it were a consensus voice,” France said on the “SiriusXM Speedway” show....

Ciccarelli, 50, has participated in 18 Truck Series races over the past four years, though none in 2020. He has finished in the top 10 once — a No. 9 placing at the Michigan International Speedway last year. “Well its been a fun ride and dream come true but if this is the direction Nascar is headed we will not participate after the 2020 season is over,” Ciccarelli announced in a Facebook post (all misspellings are his own)....

Each racer made a single-lap run, and the drivers with the five fastest lap times in each group advanced to the final round of qualifying. Busch led 79 laps and came away with the win at the Pocono 400. Brad Keselowski followed Busch across the finish line while Erik Jones placed third. It was Busch’s 55th career cup series win and his fourth victory of the year. Kyle Larson was the winner of both Stage 1 and 2. He entered the race with just one stage win in 2019. Martin Truex Jr. struggled with engine troubles and completed just 91 laps....

Entering Sunday’s race in Atlanta, 18 of the 21 NASCAR Sprint Cup telecasts had declines in ratings and 16 have had declines in viewership (that excludes rainouts). The latest decreases came for last week’s race from Bristol, which earned a 3.2 final rating and 5.1 million viewers on ABC — down 18 percent in ratings and 20 percent in viewership from last year’s 3.9 and 6.3 million. Several races have not just declined but hit multi-year lows....

Almirola beat out Clint Bowyer with just seconds remaining to earn the top spot and will start on the front row alongside Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who came in second in qualifying. But keep in mind, while 14 races have been won from the pole at Atlanta Motor Speedway, a race has not been won from there since 2006 when Kasey Kahne completed the feat. Denny Hamlin, who won the first race of the year at Daytona, will start fourth....

The 29-year-old out of Welcome, North Carolina narrowly beat out Kevin Harvick for the top spot in qualifying at the Camping World 400 and will start in first for Sunday’s race. Harvick was very close behind, but Dillon had an even better run and beat him out. Daniel Hemric also had a good qualifying run and will start third while Jimmie Johnson will be fourth. Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 78 Furniture Row Toyota will be on the pole as the starting lineup for Sunday’s race will be set by owner’s points, per the NASCAR Rule Book. Truex led both Monster Energy Series practices Saturday. Brad Keselowski is the defending winner of this race. The Camping World Truck Series’ Alpha Energy Solutions 250 was halted after 23 laps because of rain and postponed until Sunday afternoon....
