The starting grid for Sunday’s race at Texas, scheduled to start at 3:17 p.m. ET and broadcast live on NBCSN, features Fords from different teams in the top two spots as a result of the procedure that utilizes a combination of points standings and a random draw to set the lineup. Truex led 152 of the 274 laps in the Quaker State 400, and won the first two stages of the race. He was so far out in front of the field much of the night that it was clear it would take a fluke for someone else to win the event. That fluke almost happened. Statistics-driven site FiveThirtyEight published the forecast on Wednesday. Its founder, Nate Silver, noted the model’s prediction matched results shown in FiveThirtyEight’s final forecast prior to Election Day in 2016, when Trump’s win contradicted political polling estimates released during his campaign against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. “Coincidentally, these are the exact same odds as in our final forecast in 2016,” wrote Silver, a statistician who specializes in sports and election analysis, on Twitter Wednesday morning....

Star center Nathan MacKinnon left for the locker room after appearing to suffer a right arm injury. It appeared MacKinnon was unable to hold up his right arm as he skated off the ice and to the locker room. MacKinnon has been a star this postseason, just like he was all year. He has six goals and seven assists (13 points) in 11 games for Colorado. He tallied his second straight 97-plus point season this year, finishing with 99 (41 goals, 58 assists) in 2018-19....

Hockey India on Wednesday named a 34-member core group for the final national camp before the season-ending men’s World Cup, to be held in Bhubaneswar from November 28 to December 16. The 23-day camp will begin on Thursday at the Kalinga Stadium and the 34 campers will report to chief coach Harendra. The camp will give Harendra chance to work with the core group and pick his final 18-member squad....

It looks like this summer, which is already a transitional one at Manchester United, much of the old Trafford faithful may get one of their long held wishes. For a few seasons now, the majority of the Champion’s supporters seem to have been of the opinion that Portuguese winger Nani doesn’t quite cut the mustard. It now seems that the club are ready to let the player go. The reason for the large contingent of fans that want to see the wide man moved on is that Nani can be an incredibly frustrating player....

NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility tweeted on Wednesday that the launch of its Black Brant XII sounding rocket, due to take place on Tuesday had been “scrubbed because of cloudy skies in Bermuda and Wallops.” The next opportunity to attempt a launch would be no earlier than 8:06 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, with backup windows running through May 16. The launch was originally planned to take place on Friday, but has been repeatedly postponed....

The NASCAR test, not mandatory, will attract about 25-30 cars. Among the things NASCAR is expected to test are a larger spoiler and the reduction of horsepower using a tapered spacer (which reduces air flow in the engine), similarly with what is done in the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series. Drivers would prefer to have ultimate horsepower and have everything put in their hands, but NASCAR is seeking any package that would create more passing for the lead....

Much like other drivers, Logano has been spending time on a simulator preparing for the season ahead, predominantly because there isn’t any offseason car testing in NASCAR yet. Excited about the prospects of racing on diverse tracks this season, the No. 22 Ford Mustang driver said: Bear in mind that Logano does not have experience racing on dirt. However, he believes the addition of a dirt-track race is a good measure of a NASCAR driver....

GEICO 500 is the longest track race on the 2022 schedule and will be held next weekend at Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama. The event will start at 3:00 pm ET and will be broadcast live on FOX and MRN. The GEICO 500 will be contested over 188 laps on the 2.66-mile-long tri-oval track. The Talladega Superspeedway features 33 degrees of banking at the turn, with 16.5 degrees of banking on the tri-oval and three degrees on the backstretch....

The seven-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion entered the race a dismal 35th in the standings after crashes in the first two races of the season, at Daytona and Atlanta. And Sunday didn’t start on a high note. Johnson’s No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet failed prerace inspection three times, costing the team the services of car chief Jesse Sauders, who was ejected from the event. Johnson started the race from the 37th position and went a lap down to race winner Kevin Harvick on Lap 34....

In addition to predicting a hot day with temperatures in the 90s, the National Weather Service is calling for showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. CT and before 11 p.m. CT. Needless to say, that isn’t ideal for a race in which the green flag is scheduled to drop at 5:23 p.m. ET (4:23 p.m. CT). The humidity will already be high, so showers leading up and during the race are to be expected....
